2 Handwritten Diaries Albert Stenabaugh Oak Grove & Franklin Township NJ 1887-87

These two diaries originally belonged to Albert J. Stenabaugh who was born on December 8 th , 1860 and died on October 5 th , 1916. He was the son of John and Lucy (Cronce) Stenabaugh and lived in Oak Grove New Jersey at least that’s what he writes in the front cover of the diary. All of the census records list him as living in Franklin Township New Jersey . He was married to Louisa Alles Stenabaugh and they had three children; Williard D., F. Lester and Jennie L. The two diaries represent 1887 and 1888 and they are full of handwritten entries. I did find a photo of Albert on the web and copied it off for you to see. Albert was a hard working farmer and most of his entries have to do with that. Here are a few example entries to give you a better idea of the contents….. 1887 “Too cold to work. Uncle Charles went to High Bridge in the P.M. Aunt M. at hand. I went to J. Hampton’s to choir meeting in evening…..Warm. Cloudy day. Samuel and I hauled dong all day. Charles went to Quakertown. C. B. Johnson called here. Killed mean dog this morning. Ellis came down at night….High N. W. wind. Cleaned oats A.M. and bought 81 bushels. I went to Locktown in P.M. Rode the colt and drove him. John Opdyke was here P.M. changed photos with Linda…..” 1888 “A very nice day. Cold. Loue and I went to Croton to church and went home to dinner. Mr. read more
