This Japanese handwritten notebook is dated on its cover as having been started in May of Meiji 17 (1884), and the title in large kanji seems to say "Kisetsu Wachou", which very loosely translated seems to mean something like "Ethics Journal" (a couple of the kanji used seem to be intentionally and perhaps playfully slightly different from those that would be normally used). Including the soft covers there seems to be roughly 34 thin, two-ply page-leafs, all of which have entries. The contents appear to be thoughts and observations by the writer, including descriptions of places (Hakone, Atami, etc.) and "Ways to Respect" ones older brother and parents, and so forth. This book is in basically good condition. There is much general wear, dustiness, and staining on the covers, with minor damage at the edges and corners, but the binding is still well intact . The inside pages are still supple, with no brittleness but there is some yellowing (a little more than appears in the sample photos) and age-staining. Size: About W4 7/8 " (124mm) X H6 1/2" (165mm) X D5/16" (8mm). This item is set to ship via Air Mail, and should arrive within 7-14 days after being posted.
