Description: Made by the pottery of Anthony Shaw, who is justifiably considered the "father" of Tea Leaf Ironstone, the sugar bowl offered in this auction has copper luster decoration in the Tea Leaf pattern on a white ironstone "Hanging Leaves" piece. As you can see for yourselves, the combination is exquisite and worthy of placement in any good Tea Leaf collection! Please take a look at my other auctions because I have listed the matching teapot as well! Having produced more than 18 body styles featuring copper luster Tea Leaf decoration, Anthony Shaw first registered this specific shape with the copper luster motifs in 1856. Sitting on a very low pedestal base, the bowl is divided in four panels delineated by embossed bands that end in foliate reliefs at the bulging waist. The scroll handles, foliate embossing on the handletags and at the base of the lid finial as well as the perimeters of the lid, bowl rim and base are all enhanced with a thick line of copper luster. The copper decoration is completed by, of course, Tea Leaves on the bowl's two faces. The sugar bowl measures 7 1/2" in height (base to top of finial) and is 5 1/2" from handle to handle. It is appropriately marked on the underside of the bowl's base with the pottery's signature in black underglaze print. Condition: Condition on this piece is very good. The potting is excellent and the ironstone body crispy white with no stains or discolorations and just slight overall crazing. The glaze is shiny and translucent and sparkles in the sun! The copper luster is in mint condition - amazing to see but t is no wear at all on this sugar bowl. As you can see in the relevant picture, the only "flaw" with this item is that the finial had broken off and was consequently re-attached to the lid. It was a clean break with no chips missing so if you wish, you could have it professionally restored. It displays perfectly even now (t is just a little bit of glue showing, which you could scrape off easily) and the break does not affect the sugar bowl's beauty.Thank you very much for your interest. Feel free to email me if you have any questions and please, take a minute to view my other ceramics auctions. I would also like to repeat that I don't send second chance offers so be suspicious if you get one.PS: Please be advised that I ship only once a week, on Tuesdays. If you need to get an item by a specific date, make sure you contact me to make the necessary arrangements.
