These vintage sterling silver cuff links bear the double-H mark of renowned Danish modernist designer HANS HANSEN. The tops are 11/16" in diameter, and his trademark back piece -- the elongated oval with the center raised bar -- is 3/4" x 5/16" across at the center. The marks are the double H -- one H stamped atop the other (alas, a trifle smeared, but still identifiable), 925S, and DENMARK on one side, and the item number, 648, on the other. One expert with whom I consulted said that Bent Gabrielsen had designed item number 640 for Hansen, and she felt that this was likely his work, and that it was his style. T are light surface scratches and a few pinpoint marks; otherwise, this pair is in excellent condition. The surface is a brushed silver; I just realized that the pics are a little ambiguous and wanted to make sure that you know it's brushed, not just a blurry photo . . . The backing pieces move smoothly and are securely attached. When I did some onlne research on this piece, I came across an article by Patrick Kapty in Modern Silver magazine (wonderful source!), and thought this information was appropriate : "Probably the first truly modern style jewelry for men wasdesigned sometime in the late 1920s or the early 1930s, in the abstracted,geometric Art Deco style. Another name for this style is functionalism, and examples are shown by the firm Hans Hansen of Denmark . . . This pared-down-to-essentials style exemplifies the credo 'form follows function' that became the byword of modernists generally for nearly half a century."
