Welcome fans and collectors of 60's pop music publications. My regular buyers have great taste and many ask me to find and offer new and unusual publications. In that spirit, this week I am listing the first 4 issues of This Is Happening. This Is Happening Magazine is a Los Angeles based, underground newspaper style magazine with an emphasis on pop / rock music, politics and hippie culture, similar to the LA Free Press, but with more attention to music and the arts. Its stated goal is to "fill in the wide gap that exists between 'teenybopper' publications such as KRLA Beat and the ever-growing number of 'underground' papers such as the Free Press or Provos." This is the February, 1968 issue (Number 4) of This Is Happening Magazine ("Not A Reflection...But A New Direction"). What's inside? The Byrds - GREAT full page feature article, that looks at the Byrds through a series of gigs, beginning at Ciro's in 1965 and finishing as a 3 piece at the Hullabaloo in December, 1967. Gene Clark appears, disappears, reappears and disappears, and ultimately so does David Crosby. A fascinating, contemporary look at an iconic band. Any true Byrds fan will require this one!
