THIS WAS AN UNREAD INVESTOR-COPY WHICH WE SUBMITTED FOR CERTIFICATION RECENTLY, AND IT CAME BACK AT 9.8. IT LOOKS FLAT-OUT MINT, AND FEATURES A CLASSIC SIMONSON ACTION COVER. ~AND IT'S NOT EASY TO GET IN 9.8! This book is well known to fans and dealers alike as the UNITY CLASSIC FEATURING SOME TOP VALIANT HEROES, HELPING FURTHER THE INFAMOUS VALIANT CRAZE OF THE EARLY NINETIES! (This issue tells Chapter #16 of the Unity saga, that ran through the entire Valiant Universe in the early nineties. See our many other Unity auctions on ebay currently!) Anybody who was active in the hobby will tell you about how this upstart publisher, helmed by Jim Shooter, started its own new "universe", beginning with Magnus Robot Fighter, followed by Solar, which were both previously Gold Key heroes, of the silver/bronze era. But then Valiant commenced introducing their own all-original heroes, starting with this auspicous series. Which opened the doors for Harbinger, X-O Manowar, Shadowman, Archer and Armstrong, Bloodshot, Turok, and other great titles soon to follow. The prices escalated rapidly, and those holding copies of such pre-Unity issues could not re-stock fast enough, as demand was literally through the roof. The books had thought-provoking storytelling, coupled with great artwork, and a unique coloring method that gave them a painted feel, unlike the colors found in the big publishers. Due to the fact that Valiant was a newcomer, many dealers didn't want to risk buying something from a small fledgling 'independent publisher' that had previously only put out a small handful of silly videogame-related comics such as Super Mario Brothers, Nintendo Adventures, Legend Of Zelda and the like, and as a result those cautious dealers were left without any copies of the hottest books to hit the market since the eighties. And because the print-runs were rather small, the books were not readily available from the major distributors after the instantaneous sell-outs, and they were promptly scarce and costly on the back-issue market! Which worked out very well for us, as we were one of the few established comic companies that anticipated their success and pre-ordered large quantities of all their books beginning with Magnus #1 and continuing up until well after the massive Unity storyline and Deathmate crossover. The rights to the Valiant superheroes have changed hands again, and t will be future incarnations of these great titles. Valiant Entertainment, Inc., has a new Harbinger hardcover book coming out. And the X-O HC apparently includes new material from JIM SHOOTER, and an all-new Valiant superhero! Plus, A & A is slated for a book, to include a new Shooter story. And It's been officially announced that VEI has not only a Harbinger book out now, and additional material in the works, but Harbinger is now slated for a major motion-picture. All of which bodes very well for the original Valiant books, especially this one, which features action with some major players of the entire Valiant universe, and is scarce in grade. This great Walt Simonson cover is a treat to behold when it's unblemished by such pesky detractors as creases and spine-stresses. It has a Jim Shooter story coupled with the timeless artwork of David Lapham. And the famous multi-hued Valiant colors, of course. All contained within one of the finest existing specimens. It doesn't get any better than this! This superlative comic-book WILL find a new home, as the opening bid is LOW and t is NO RESERVE! This comic is a real find in unrestored NM+ or better shape, as most had flaws, even fresh from the factory cases. And lots of the copies were read, and re-read, time and time again. However, this copy is spectacular, as this book is super-clean and t aren't any visible signs of wear or aging, and it has precise printing registration. And the paper quality is unbeatable!
