[ATTN Canadian bidders: Your shipping price will be significantly lower than the "International" price listed below - please read the "Shipping" section of my listing for details.] **HARLEQUIN Antique Boudoir Doll Pierrot Clown Jester Boy Man Vintage Baitz Half Doll Character Doll Composition Original Outfit**It's "Boudoir Doll Week" in my shop! I am putting a group of them for sale, including this rare and enchan ting little circa 1920s - 19 30s Art Deco Pierrot. This grinning character reminds me a little of the emcee in the musical "Cabaret" : androgynous , transfixing and a little bit spooky! He is an unusual and very nicely crafted piece. He is almost certainly a Lilli Baitz doll (do a search for " Baitz harlequin for comparison) , but I couldn't examine the back of his shoulders for marks/signatures to verify, since his clothing is so tightly sewn around h is body. I'm not sure whether it's more accurate to call him a boudoir doll or a half dol l, but e ither way , he's a good one! Pie rrot's head , hands and feet are finely mo lded bisque (I originally thought they were composition, but my research suggests otherwise) . There are detailed molded features around the mouth , eyes and ears. The hands are beautifully sculpted, with long, individu ally defined fingers. The feet have a similarly elongated shape, with painted black slippers and molded rosettes at the toes. The face is hand painted, w ith individually defined teeth, a chalky white complexion , bright red lips and smoky eyes. There are painted "beauty marks" on the doll's cheek and chin. The doll is wearing his original silk outfit, which includes a cap with floppy "ears", puffy black trousers, and a paisley shirt with pink buttons an d pink bow tie. The shirt is in good condition but the trousers have a lot of shredding. The body is soft stuffed, but with a firm armature inside to give the body shape. It looks as if th is doll was designed to be a "shelf sitter", because his bottom and the down ward-facing parts of his thighs have a flat , firm lining that allows him to sit on flat surfaces with stability. The body is in a seated position and the pose cannot be adjusted much. This doll is small, but fa irly heavy for its size. A true Art Deco era treasure, this doll will be a fine addition to your collection! For details on size, condition and shipping for this doll, please read the sections below. MEASUREMENTS For comparison, this doll's head is about the size of a smallish egg. He is about 12.5 inches long/tall (his legs are bent - he'd be longer/taller if they were straight) . H e weighs approximately 275 grams. CONDITION Very good vintage condition. The doll has some light signs of age, consistent with what my photos show. The main condition issue is with the silk pants, which have shredded with age (as shown in the photos above). The hat also has a few shredded bits. There is a smidgin of wear to the paint o n the doll's face (mostly chin and edges of lips), as shown in my photos.
