Other publishers in the late 1800's included Frank Leslie, in New York, and Gleason's and Ballou's Pictorial, and Every Saturday in Boston. All of these publications were highly illustrated with wood engravings. This issue is in fairly good condition for it's age. The pages are yellow from age, with some minor stains at the bottom of the pages, but they do not affect the pictures or text. As you can see from the list below it gives a good insight into life in the 1800's, along with some very nice liturary articles. Additional pictures available upon request, please send your e-mail address. ARTICLES: SOLAR ECLIPSE, 1869. - Total eclipses of the sun are very rare. REVELATIONS OF A CONVENT. - The Presse of Vienna published the following horrible details of the incarceration of a nun: "The Criminal Court at Cracow to the effect that in the Convent of the Carmelite barefooted nuns one of the order, named Barbara Ubryk, had been forcibly kept in close confinement in a dark cell for a long number of years.
