This is the February 1, 1862 issue of the Harper's Weekly. I will be listing the title of all the drawings/pictures, since this is a way of lettering you know what this issue contains. Front cover: 2 pictures "Destruction of a Schooner Off Cumberland Inlet, Georgia, By the Boats of the 'Alabama'"; "The Pirate 'Sumter' Firing at the Brig 'Joseph Parks'; of Boston" ; 1/2 page "Encampment of Captain Patterson's Cavalry Scouts, Near Hancock, Maryland"; 1/2 page "Brigadier-General Kelley, United States Volunteers, and Staff; Lieut. W. B. Kelley, Capt. J. M MacKenzie, Capt., B. F. Hawkes, B. Powell, Private Secretary, Maj. John B. Frothingham, Brig-Gen, B. F. Kelley, and Capt. G. W. Damage: First, the blackened corners are my inept photography skills; these are shadows. This issue was a part of a bound volume. It does have the remains of the holes where the binding string was attached; there is still glue on the spine edge, and there is very little seperation of the front/back page. I have given the description/measurements of the 2 bottom corners missing; the text on the back of the drawing for the first 'gone corner' is of the current chapter of the novel, the second missing corner takes out most of the article about "The Motar Flotilla". The paper has yellowed/browned throughout. There is the occasional darker brown spot, but there is not other serious damage. At 149 years old it is really in good shape. Harper's will be shipped flat, between sturdy pieces of cardboard to keep the chance of damage at bay. They do not ship well with other types of items; they are somewhat fragile and require flat, sturdy shipping. We will ship up to 5 Harper's in a package for the cost of shipping 1 Harpers.
