Harper's Weekly A Journal of Civilization New York, Saturday, May 4, 1861 --------- This is a 16-page weekly issue (Vol. V, No. 227) from the 1861 bound volume of Harper’s Weekly being sold on E-Bay. Part of a five-volume set originally owned by "Dillaplaine Smith Sysler" (with address & date marked on inside cover as "Warren St. above 34 th West Philad, March, 1862"). This set was found in the fall of 2010 in an attic of an old house in Reisterstown, Maryland and is being sold on behalf of the current owner who has found the cost of rebinding all five volumes beyond her means and interest. E ach issue is being sold weekly in commemoration of the 150 th anniversary of each publication date. As such, this endeavour commenced January, 2011 and runs consecutively through December, 2015 – the course of which provides a unique opportunity to learn about the events of the American Civil War as they unfold on a week-to-week basis, and follow the action as one might have done so back in the day. Each listing is posted Sunday night and closes ten days later the following Wednesday night to coincide with the publishing anniversary date.
