This lot consists of several (mostly magazine) pages of Harrison Cady and Palmer Cox illustrations. T are 11 items in all... First, and among the best, is a beautiful Fisk Tires ad with a Harrison Cady illustration of various small critters running (assumably) behind an early automobile. It is in full color and about 10 x 14 inches. Rabbits, bugs, mice and more are all scampering in fright near the car. The car’s tires are red, which I’m sure was a stylish touch... I am also showing the back side of this same page, because it is an advertisement for an early auto called the Milburn. Another beautiful advertising drawing by an unknown artist. This piece is undated, but appears to be from the late Teens or early Twenties, judging by the car styles. VG condition with three minor edge tears and staple holes in one margin. Very frameable!... The second Cady illustration, also in full color, is a 1921 set of very cute animal characters meant to be cut out to accompany a Christmas story by Cady (the story is not included). VG condition with a couple of minor edge tears... The third Cady artwork is from Life magazine (circa 1924). It consists of three exceptional Christmas-themed panel cartoons. The top two feature more critters, while the bottom one shows kids attacking Santa for his toys. The incredible, delicate linework is amazing! ( The back of this page, not shown in the photos, is two cartoons of Black stereotyped characters, beautifully done ink drawings by an artist whose name appears to be Ely)... The fourth Cady artwork is a two-color 1925 illustration that accompany’s a story by Thornton W. Burgess. This is trimmed from the page in a slightly irregular shape... Last of the Cady drawings is a detailed two-color drawing (6.25 x 8.5 inches) illustrating “The Football Game at Beetlesburg.” T is a pencil notation stating that this was taken from a 1916 Woman’s World magazine. Very clever artwork dating to the early days of football, t’s a lot going on ! The printing is slightly off registration making it a little blurry, but still another exquisite little drawing by Harrison Cady... The rest of the lot contains artwork by Palmer Cox, famous for the Brownies comics. These all pre-date the Cady material and all are in black and white. First is another incredibly detailed piece called The Brownies’ Automobile Club. This has a pencil notation on the back that says it comes from a 1902 Century magazine, making this from the very EARLIEST days of the automobile. Fascinating!... Travelling back in time to 1894, we have an ad for Brownie rubber stamps. Good condition plus with some small tears and staple holes... Next is a postcard-sized ad (but not a postcard) with the Brownies. I think it is an ad for a printer. It says “THE BROWNIES WILL DWELL AFTER AT J. M. COE’S PRINTERY, 917 MAIN STREET, RICHMOND, INDIANA.” This was removed from a scrapbook and has scrapbook residue and a taped tear repair... The last three are Palmer Cox Brownies pieces from the 1890s that are only in fair condition, but will be included. The pages are about 11 x 16 (one slightly less), and have multiple Brownies and Cox drawings. Only a portion of each of these pages is shown. Some of the art might be best trimmed out. T are lots of tears and the pages are folded, some tape repairs and light staining (these pages will be shipped folded in half along prior folding). Bid on the rest of the lot, and consider these an extra. They are too good to not at least include! Nice lot of artwork, all for one money.
