HARRISON MCINTOSH POTTERY BOWL CIRCA 1960 WITH PAPER LABEL AND HM MARK THIS HARRISON MCINTOSH BOWL IS SIGNED WITH THE IMPRESSED HM SIGNATURE. IT HAS NO CRACKING OR CHIPS.THE SIZE IS JUST UNDER 6 INCHES WIDE BY A LITTLE UNDER 2 INCHES TALL. The work of Harrison McIntosh (b. 1914) has a simple elegance that unites elements both ancient and modern. Made by Harrison McIntosh of Claremont, California. He is now 98 years old; Southern California artist, an early figure in the history of American ceramics, has remained loyal to his quiet, cohesive aesthetic throughout his career, stating that "simplification is a basic principle of mine, and I strive to purify and strengthen an idea." California ceramist Harrison McIntosh is internationally recognized for the elegant stoneware he began creating in the 1950s and has continued to refine and develop over the course of his long and distinguished career. The simple lines of his forms and their softly curving silhouettes reference the human body or elements of nature, including gourds, eggs, and other natural forms. McIntosh’s exceptionally handsome vessels reflect his familiarity with traditional Japanese pottery as well as his appreciation of postwar developments in Scandinavian design.
