This is a , rare and unusual 27" Coleman Walking Dummy Doll that has a composition shoulder head and a walking wooden body with composition lower arms and a wire-covered torso. The head is nailed onto the body by nails (2 on the front of shoulder plate and 1 on the back). This doll was patented in 1917 by Harry H. Coleman (H.H.Coleman) patent # 1,221,970. You can go to /?tag=harry-coleman to see the diagram and read the date on the patent. The torso which is in excellent condition is made of wood, wire screening and coiled springs. There are springs on the top of each leg that allow the doll to "walk" and there are hinges and joints on legs enabling her to bend. Joints on both arms are held in place by hinges which allow her to bend her arms. The hands and part of the forearm are composition. I believe there should be another joint at this point, but this doll's hands and wrists have been fused together. On the block of wood between her legs is a faint manufacturers stamp which is difficult to make out but definitely exists. The date on this doll is Oct. 14, 1919. Her composition head is severally cracked and needs restoring. She has painted blue eyes, painted eyelashes, eyebrows and lips and dimples on her cheeks and chin.There are red dots on inner corners of eyes.
