Being offered is a vibrant Connecticut schoolgirl sampler (appx.14x10) from the prominent Webster-Dutton family of Farmington and Southington townships in Hartford County. The family sampler is accompanied by an out of print early history of the town of Farmington,w the samplermaker settled after her family migrated from nearby Southington. This schoolgirl gem features what all collectors love....an 18thC date AND town name included as part of the inscription; which is worked in brilliant blue silks and includes the naive misspelling of the samplermaker's first name!! It reads:"Hannh Dutton was born in Southington July 2nd 1792".......how does a samplermaker misspell their first name;was it because she was so young? Next to her blue-highlighted inscription Hannah included the most favored of all verses found on New England schoolgirl samplers, beginning with the lines..."Jesus permit thy gracious name to stand/As the first efforts of an infant's hand". The upper alphabet is also stitched in the same vibrant blue as the inscription, with an interesting geometric motif included at the end. Included with the fabulous sampler ,this rare out of print book was printed by the Farmington Historical Society in 1935 on the entire history of Farmington and surrounding area, back to it's founding around 1640 through to present day....with every prominent family from the area noted....a treasure trove for historians and genealogists. Both the sampler and the book are in crisp condition. Samplermaker Hannah was born 1792 to Joseph Dutton and Mary Winchell;and married Chester Webster in Farmington in 1814,w they raised their family of 11 children...Hannah passed away in Farmington in 1870. Conserved on acid free board with excellent contrast, the sampler is perfect for those passionate New England and Connecticut collectors who prize the town name on their samplers, extremely fine condition, low wholesale reserve(under 500),and luscious blue silk accents! (please excuse glare lines in photos;sampler better in person/last photo of local trail )
