Available for your consideration, a Harvey Draper MS, ELK Model No. 5. This custom handmade knife has wood handle with German silver inlay (for initials), brass pommel and hilt, black and silver spacers, a fine example of Harvey's skill. Harvey Draper was a legendary knife maker from the mid 60's building knives until 1982 when he was tragically killed in a private aircraft accident. After working for Gil Hibben for a short while Harvey started Draper Knives with son Bart Draper and continued perfecting his skill and sharing his craft with other up and coming knife makers, such as, Buster Warenski, Dennis Friedly, Rod Chappel, Don Zaccagnino and Steve Johnson, who later went to work for R.W. Loveless, and A.G. Russell. Elmer Keith wrote an article for the 1967 issue of Guns & Ammo magazine about Draper knives, calling them the best knives he has ever seen, pictured was the Model No. 1 Elmer Keith designed by Elmer, perfected by Harvey Draper, the rest was history and orders began rolling in. The Draper knife shop also supplied our soldiers headed to Vietnam with combat knives, filling their orders first. Harvey was best known for his Bowie knives and the Keith knife, however, he was always pushing the limits with new design ideas and could build anything from steel, especially 440-C Stainless. The shop had developed 40 unique designs and an undocumented number of custom, one of a kind, made to order knives. This is your chance to own one of the documented designs. The knife is in mint condition, as is, the original sheath. The knife is exceptional and a fine example of this model. The sheath is in excellent condition and the knife has been documented in a new book about Draper.
Blade is 6", overall length is 11 1/4" and the blade stock is 1/4" 440-C stainless.
