Kawase Hasui."Saishion Pagoda-Temple in the Snow".Lifetime edition (1946-1957)6 mm seal.Publisher: Watanabe.Unframed. Not attached to any backing.CONDITION: Overall condition is very fine. There is some mat burn around the edges, though not overly noticeable, which can be covered with proper framing, should you want to frame this. There are two small holes in the margins, top and bottom, left side, which do not detract from the piece at all. These holes were probably original to the printing, either for drying or registration and are common in original and lifetime editions of Hasui woodblocks. Some minor fading, since it does have age, but the over all appearance of this piece is very nice. It has a very natural hue.The mat burn is the only concern and if you are able to restore it at some point, this is a great way to get a rare, lifetime edition of a Hasui woodblock for a noticeably reduced price. I have seen this same, lifetime edition listed for $1,750.00, in excellent condition. I am discounting because of the mat burn and minor fading. If I were going to keep it, I would probably just leave it as is.ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:Otherwise, this is one of his rarer woodblocks. I had it appraised by several very knowledgeable Hasui experts and one told me that he had not ever handled this one.Snow scenes by Hasui tend to go for higher prices. read more
