Large, early 19th C, wallpapered hat box with rare hot air balloon scene, blue background with polychrome decoration of landscape, buildings and hot air balloons in flight, top and sides read 'Clayton's Ascent'. Richard Clayton flew his ballon from Cincinnati to Virginia in 1835, a total of 350 miles. 12''H x 19''L x 17''W, band around top damaged, wear to bottom. From a Litchfield Connecticut estate.
