Here we have a MINT , UNDISPLAYED DISNEY HATBOX GHOST BIG FIG with LIGHT-UP FACIAL FEATURES and CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY! This is an AMAZING, HUGE STATUE of the famous HATBOX GHOST from the Disneyland Haunted Mansion Ride. This is an absolute MINT CONDITION BIG FIG , with all original packaging and paperwork! It comes with a SEALED CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY from DISNEY . I am the original owner of this Big Fig and it has NEVER BEEN DISPLAYED or USED in anyway! I bought it from the Disney Catalog back in 2005 and it has been stored safely, in it's original box and packaging, in a smoke free house ever since I purchased it. I have only taken it out of the box to photograph it and make sure it is in MINT shape, which it is!
This is an amazingly detailed and beautiful replica of the Hatbox Ghost designed by Disney artists Kevin Kidney and Jody Daily. It is 27 inches tall and VERY HEAVY! It is very solid and well built. It features elements of resin, metal (housing in back of head for batteries) and Faux Hair. The batteries fit in the back of his head under his hair and when installed, it will illuminate his eyes and mouth. This is another awesome feature of this big fig, which brings him to life even more. Story of the Hatbox Ghost: If you don't already know, the Hatbox Ghost was originally created to inhabit the Attic Scene, along with the forlorn bride. There among the dusty clutter of old trunks and furniture, the top-hatted ghoul would confront the endless procession of Doom-buggies while dangling a hatbox from his bony hand. With every beat of the bride's broken heart, his grinning head would disappear from his shoulders, and fleetingly reappear in the hatbox. This visual gag, as envisioned by the ride's designers, would've been accomplished by tricky lighting. A blacklight pinspot focussed on the ghost's head would turn off and on, while a small light concealed in the upper portion of the hatbox would illuminate his face inside, visible through the box's scrim wall. In theory, it sounds awesome, but the effect didn't work as well as anticipated , and the Hatbox Ghost was removed from the attraction sometime in August of 1969, never to return. Fast-forward to today, and the Hatbox Ghost has still yet to show his face in the attraction. Nevertheless, in the intervening four decades, he has risen to legendary status among his fans. The pictures below are of the actual Hatbox Ghost Big Fig that I am selling now. I took these pictures very carefully and placed him back in the box, with all packacing in place. I am sad to let him go, but I hope to find someone who will appreciate this amazing collectible. Paypal is accepted for this auction. Due to the extremely heavy weight and huge size of this Big Fig, I am charging actual shipping cost for UPS ground shipping. If you live in san Francisco or the North Bay Area, you can pick this big fig up at no cost for shipping. Thanks and Enjoy!
