HATTIE CARNEGIE SARDINE CAN NECKLACE c. 1965 This funky little item - a half opened can of Bakelite-type sardines on a chain, was made by Hattie Carnegie sometime in the mid-sixties, as part of her line of costume jewelry. It is now VERY sought after in collectible vintage jewelry circles. Understandably, most of the pieces turning up in today’s market are in fairly poor condition, usually showing up with the key repaired, or even broken off completely. Not this piece, which is in excellent condition! It is still in its original plastic bag, stapled closed and never opened, with no wear and only a slight degree of darkening, easily removed with a pencil eraser. It still has its original chain, also in mint condition, with its original foil price ticket of $3.00. There is a slight bend to the key, which, having seen several of these pieces, I can tell you is not uncommon, even in old "new" store stock. PLEASE NOTE: I guarantee that the key is intact, but it will not take any degree of "fixing." If the key is broken off, I cannot accept a return, so I recommend that you do not attempt to straighten it out. This very desirable costume necklace would be the crowning glory of any vintage jewelry collection. You will rarely, if ever, find one in as good condition. A true find!
