A rare original, large albumen photograph of a young beautiful Hawaiian Girl. This large photo is on a very desirable, original J A Gonslaves mount, showing his address in Honolulu. The mount measures 12 x 10 inches, while the photo is 9 1/4 x 6 15/16 inches. One sees mounts for CDV and Cabinet Card photos, but not for these large albumen photos. J A Gonsalves arrived in Honolulu in 1879, and went to work for in the Fort Street studio of J Williams, then went to work for A A Montano, and took over his photographic business when he retired. He had the patronage of King Kalakaua, and did considerable traveling accompanying the king, taking pictures of his entourage. This photo was collected in the 1880s, has been stored in a dry climate, and is in excellent condition with no foxing, creases, tears, repairs, etc.. This is large original albumen photograph from the 1880s, and not a copy, and comes directly from the family's estate. Please see other early Hawaiian photographs that I have listed.
