This auction is for a bag of chips & pieces from Hawaiian Sunrise Shells, collected from the South Shore of Oahu. Various sizes & colors; see coin in photo for reference.Unfortunately, not all of the sunrise shells in the ocean stay in one piece! Sunrise shells have many natural predators, including crabs and fish that crush the shell to get at the scallop inside. But, the pieces still have the same vibrant colors as the original shells and are great for jewelry or other craft projects. On the South side of the island, the waves are not as strong, so shellls usually aren't broken up or worn by the surf. Sunrise chips from the South shore tend to have brighter colors, including brighter pinks and more red & orange pieces. They also have better defined ridges and more gloss on the pink side. The pieces for sale in this auction are exactly as pictured in the photos. Note that these pieces are in all natural condition, just as I found them on the bottom of the Pacific ocean. Unlike my regular sunrise auctions, these pieces haven't been cleaned in any way. So, some of them still have calcium deposits on the surface and will need a bit of work before they reach their full potential. Collection info will be provided with the shell. All shells were hand collected under license in an ethical manner with no damage to the marine environment. read more
