EDWARD N.Y. 3 GALLON JUG INTRICATE BLUE COBALT FLORAL DECORATION 1867 ~ ~ NO RESERVE AUCTION ~ From the mid-19th century comes this beautifully done stoneware single-handled jug. Presented for your inspection and bidding in stunningly pristine condition! T is incredible detail and artistic flourishes in the intricate blue cobalt decoration. The large and expertly crafted floral design is superb. T is NO frying to the blue cobalt decoration. A very thick and shiny salt glaze covers the entire piece. This primitive stoneware jug bears the makers mark of one of the early makers of stoneware: Haxstun Ottman & Co. of Ft. Edward, New York. The makers mark is deeply and clearly stamped "HAXSTUN, OTTMAN & CO FORT EDWARD N. Y.", which dates this piece from 1867 to 1872. Haxstun & Ottman ran the company in Ft. Edward, N.Y. between those years on the site of the former Underwood Pottery Co., and in 1872 Haxstun withdrew from Ottman and the company became known simply as Ottman Bros. The jug is also stamped with a "3" designating a capacity of 3 gallons. The condition of this antique is excellent. T's one old half inch chip at the right bottom of the jug that can't even be seen when it's standing. T's a one inch dent at the front left bottom read more
