"Old Bones, the Wonder Horse" is the story of the winner of the 1918 Kentucky Derby, Exterminator. One of racing's longest shots and longest-running winners, Exterminator was a bony disappointment purchased as a workout partner for the year's Derby favorite, Sun Briar. At the last minute, Sun Briar turns up not fit to race, and Exterminator, nominated for the Derby on the strength of his bloodlines, takes his place - and wins. By Mildred Mastin Pace, heavily illustrated by Wesley Dennis. 119 pages. Originally published in 1955, this is a 1956 weekly reader edition. Embossed blue hardcover is in very good condition. Not x-lib, only marking is owner's name in pencil inside the front cover. Dust Jacket is fair, chipped and torn as shown but still colorful, showing off the lovely cover art and real picture of Old Bones 29th birthday party. $4.00 shipping domestic media mail. International at cost. Will upgrade if requested, happy to hold (with payment) and combine shipping at straight cost. 'Tis the beginning of the Christmas season so keep checking the auctions and the store for all kinds of goodies!
