This auction is for an early 20th century cedar keepsake box in the shape of a heart. The lid is attached with brass hinges and the interior is lined with cotton batting covered with red satin. The interior lid is mirrored. The overall condition of the box is good. The wood is all joined with fine dovetailing, the mirror is intact, and the lid is securely attached. The finish on the top is a little less than perfect: t are some sections of alligator bumps and minor gaps in the varnish, but you must look closely at the box to see this. The lining on the interior has separated along one side, which can be seen in the photo. The overall measurements are 9"x8"x3". T is a label on the bottom identifying it as a box made by Piliod of Swanton, Ohio. I estimate that this early romantic item dates from the 1920s or 30s.
