REMARKABLE BOSTON CIRCA 1815 CLASSICAL MAHOGANY GAME TABLE With our utmost pride we are delighted to offer this absolutely exceptional circa 1815-20 mahogany banded inlaid classically carved Boston game table. We have exhaustively researched this table for its attribution. With reservations, and about to pin it down to the workshop of Salem, Massachusetts' Nathaniel Appleton, we found several photographs in the Boston MFA's furniture collection of the works of an unknown Boston furniture maker. He made a very small known amount of furniture with this radiating spiral carved base component which is a virtual fingerprint in this case. This over the top game table has four monopause compounded legs with paw on paw carved feet. The bases' platform has large carved cabachons surrounding its base (with the aforementioned carvings) leading up to the column with a magnificant large carved budding bellflower. The column, base platform and legs are some of the most outrageous carvings we have ever seen on an early 19th century Massachusetts classical movement piece. They are so noteworthy & unique that we have spent numerous hours researching this piece. The game table's top has a fine figured mahogany apron with a carved center panel.
