Kernow Model Ships HMS ARTIFEX 1942 Passenger and cargo liner of 13,984 gross tons built by Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson at Wallsend-on-Tyne and completed in 1924 as Ausonia for the Cunard Line. In 1939 she was converted to an Armed Merchant Cruiser and in 1942 was sold to the British Admiralty. Renamed Artifex she became a naval repair ship. Broken up at Spezia in 1961. 1:1250 scale resin model kit made in England by A. H. Models from an HM (Degen) master , No. HM 296W. The model is 5.2in (13cm) long and well detailed, n ew with box. The kit comes with masts, cranes, photos and colour guide. The derricks can be made from brass wire, not supplied with the model. Models are carefully packed in strong boxes to prevent damage during transit .
