VERY OLD SCRAPBOOK HEDDING COLLEGE ABINGDON ILLINOIS This is a great piece of Hedding College History. All pages in scrapbook are loose. In very fragile condition. Pages literally falling apart. Most items appear to be from the years around 1917, some before, some after. Contains pictures, invitation, programs, announcements, newspaper clippings, etc. Art on inside of scrapbook by Irene Russell. Hope pictures tell the story. Abingdon, a small community located south of Galesburg in west-central Illinois supported two colleges during the 1890s: Abingdon and Hedding. Hedding College was founded in 1855 as a Methodist seminary and college, with a state charter for offering degrees to women.
