THIS FIVE (5) DAY AUCTION IS FOR A FINE PAIR OF ANTIQUE HEINTZ ART METAL SHOP STERLING ON BRONZE ARTS & CRAFTS BOOKENDS WITH STYLIZED ART NOUVEAU CATTAILS IN GREAT CONDITION Otto Heintz established the Heintz Art Metal Shop in 1906, after taking over the Arts and Crafts Company in Buffalo, New York, in 1903. It remained in business until 1930. They produced ashtrays and smoking sets, bookends, bowls, boxes, vases, desk sets, and trophies. They were best-known for their Arts & Crafts pieces made of bronze, brass, and copper with Art Nouveau sterling silver overlay designs. Their mark was a pattern number- these "Cattails" are "7082", over a diamond with the letters "HAMS" superimposed inside, above the words "STERLING ON BRONZE", over the patent date, in this case "PAT.AUG.27.12". Each cattail bookend measures: Height- 5 1/8"; Width- 5 1/2"; Depth (of base)- 4". Their condition is very good, no bent or damaged parts, only normal wear and an aged patina that includes the usual tarnish that accompanies their almost 100 years of age. They have the original well-worn red felt on the base, partly loose along the edges from use over those years, but still intact.
