This is a Hen and Rooster Model 107 Vest Pocket Skinner made by the old Hen and Rooster Bertram factory in Germany prior to 1980. This was during the time when the factory was owned by AG Russell and turned out some fantastic high quality cutlery. According to Mr. Russell in a Russell forum, he stated that these were actually "bootlegged" to European dealers without his permission which is why they have the different tang stamp. Knife is approximately 3 ½" closed with a high carbon stainless 2 5/8" drop point blade. Other features include black Rucarta handles (Russell's trade marked brand of Micarta), nickel silver frame, bolsters and pins and lanyard hole. The blade on this knife is hollow ground to a super sharp thin razor edge, designed for skinning, not whittling wood. These are stamped "Rostfrei Solingen Germany " on the reverse, with the old Hen and Rooster tang stamp on the front. The blade, bolsters, and frame are all mirror polished, with even the inside of the frame polished. Blade action is very smooth with good snap. This knife does have a very tiny amount of side play in the blade. It is so small it probably met the factory standards but I always mention anything I notice.
