Henry Clay: Wonderful Henry Clay Whig Convention Ribbon. This 3" x 8" silk ribbon features a formal portrait of Henry Clay and the slogan "Clay and Tariff." It was issued at the "Democratic Whig Young Men's National Convention" held at Baltimore on May 2nd 1844. An eight-line poem by John Greenleaf Whittier is below the portrait (Whittier, a Clay supporter like Lincoln, would become a staunch Republican in years to come). There is some glue discoloration at the top (easily trimmed) and some gray discoloration in the bottom left corner. This is a scarce ribbon in very nice shape. Grade: 0, Service No.: 0
