This is a very old Henry Disston saw knife that measures 17 3/4" long with a 12" blade that is marked with the Disston logo (H.& C. Disston, Philada). The H is for Henry and the C is for his brother, Charles. Their company received several patents between 1823 and 1895. Some have said this particular saw knife was used surgically during the Civil War but I do not know. It would date somewhere in the 1800's or up to early 1900's. It has a saw tooth on one side and a knife edge on the other. These saw knives had many and varied uses on the farm and in the home. This one has all its teeth and is in original condition.
