The book is an incredibly well preserved leather bound Government Record keeper called Messages and Documents 1855-6 Part 2. It says House Document on the spine. It is a listing of government expenditures and reports from the Secretary of War from 1855-6 . Inside the first 116 pages someone has carefully pasted newspaper clippings (some articles but mostly wood block drawings) from the years 1876- 1877. T are many pictures of President Rutherford B. Hayes in various situations some having to do with his inaugural as well as several picture s of Queen Victoria. Several of the clippings/drawings cover 2 pages. One of the most interesting is of Henry O. Flipper who was the first African American graduate of West Point in 1877. The most impressive part about this book is how incredibly well preserved the pictures are. It seems as if by pasting them into the book it preserved the news clippings perfectly. I can't imagine t are many of this type of thing still out t and in such great condition. T are over 100 pictures and other clippings in the book. Pages 117-574 are as is.. no clippings. Also includes Pictures of Civil War Figures : Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, Stonewall Jackson and more.
