1935-NORMANDIE & AFRICA SCRAPBOOK we have a wonderful and Historic Scrap-book put together by the President(1950-1952) of the American Alpine Club Mr.Henry S.Hall Jr. and Wife from their 1935 trip to Africa..Henry S. Hall Jr. from Cambridge,Massachusetts was an Outdoorsman and Mountaineer.. He formed the Harvard Mountaineering Club(HMC) in 1924..The American Alpine Club has named their Library in Golden Colorado "The Henry S. Hall Jr.Library"..It is one of the oldest Alpine Reserch facilities in the United States..(Established 1916). Henry S. Hall Jr. was Secretary from 1933-1946..President from 1950-1952 and Honorary President from 1974-1988(Drector ex-officio).Henry and his Wife started their trip on the Inaugural Voyage of the Ship Normandie in 1935..They saved many momentious items on this trip which are in this Scrapbook..This Scrap-book will take you on their trip starting from New York to Plymouth England..I will try to take you on their Trip through the Scrap-book..The first page is a real 8X10" photo of the Ship Normandie arriving at Plymouth England..Also t is a Normandie Sailors Hat Ribbon framing the photo..The next pages show the same photo in a Newspaper Clipping..Also newspaper clippings of the trip and Speed Records the Normandie set in crossing the Atlantic..Next is a Inaugural 9X11"Certificate made out to Mrs.Henry S.Hall Jr . and post card of the Normandie with Commodor Pugnet..See the Massachusetts newspaper clipping telling of the Halls taking this trip..Next an official 8 page Marine Derby Meeting Programme and 5 or 6 post cards from "Maderia"..Next is a 36 page Booklet titled "Native life in South Africa"issued by the Railroad and Harbours Administrations ,lots of pictures of Native Women at work ect..Next several pages are of post cards and pictures from Capetown,Johannesburg,Kruger National Park and Game Reserve..Many cards of wild Animals..Next Southern Rhodesia,Victoria Falls Cards..Next is a 12 page 1935 Nyasaland Turf Club Programme also a Menu and calling card..Next we have a big 14X18" pull out map of Kenya and Uganda..Several more pages of post cards and pictures of Big Game and Natives..Also the Snow covered peaks of Mt.Ruwenzori,Mt.Kenya and Mt. Kilimanjaro..I don't know if Mr. Hall got wish to climbed Mt.Kilimanjaro or not ..Also Hotels,Marangu,Outspan and Barry's..Next pictures and post cards of Nyeri,Kenya,Uganda.. Next comes the Belgin Congo,map,pictures of Lake Kivu and cards..Next some Imperial Airways memorabilia and large 6 ft. long fold out map published by"RaynOil Maps Ltd" for Imperial Airlines of the Air Route,Cairo-Capetown 1934-1935..Tickets to the Khartome Museum,Sudan Customs Declaration Form and post cards from Luxor, Cairo and Alexandria Egypt,and more Imperial Airlines memorabilia..Last is a post card of Cunard Lines"Scythia" which most likely was the ship they sailed home on..This Scrap-book is in impeccable condition..It has a full 62 pages and many more items than I mentioned..This is the best put together scrapbook I have ever seen..I didn't know Mr.and Mrs.Hall but I wish I had taken this trip with them..Winner to pay shipping..Email with questions and thanks for looking ..RSS...
