Sandows Chair Rene Herbst Vitra Design Museum This listing is for an authentic collectible miniature Sandows Chair designed by Rene Herbst from the original 1928 design. This collector's miniature is from the Vitra Design Museum and is brand new in a packing crate. Each Vitra miniature is true to the original in construction and materials, and reduced in size on a scale of 1:6. Each miniature is packaged in a wooden crate*, accompanied by an informational booklet. Each of the delicate objects is made by hand; on average, each miniature requires five hours of careful manual work. Ongoing quality control ensures that every miniature corresponds to its larger original in terms of finishing, details and materials. Made in PolandMeasurements 3" length (8cm) 5" height (13cm) 3" width (8c m) Designer Profile Rene Herbst ( 1891-1982 ) Rene Herbst was trained as an architect in London and Frankfurt . By 1919 he had settled in Paris and opened a successful architecture office and manufacturing, Etablissements Rene Herbst. His Functionalist approach to design made him one of the leading French designers during the inter-war years.In 1930 he was one of the founders of the UAM (Union des Artistes Modernes) which was set up to counter the decorative excesses of the Art Deco style. The UAM members were described by Herbst as "the puritans of art" who rejected ornamentation in favor of an industrial aesthetic. He was one of the most prominent French modernists. This miniature designer furniture collectible retails for $225. USD which makes this a great eBay value and an excellent gift for a designer, architect or student of the arts.
