This piece is approximately 2"H x 4.5"L, green and white fishnet handpainted by the very gifted artisans of nd and accented by 24k gold. This is an authentic nd piece, not a fake. Ram has no chips or cracks, is in pristine condition. Retails for $210 if you can find it. Discover the charming porcelain animals of nd, revered for their elegant sculptural forms and wonderful fishnet pattern. Introduced in the 1870s, these subjects soared into popularity in the 1950s and remain sought after today, particularly in the United States. Creatures in the menagerie develop from the wellspring of an artist's imagination, often inspired by a personal experience such as a real-life encounter with a particular animal, or from the requests of collectors. The fishnet design for which nd is famous was first seen in 1874 when a nd artist became intrigued with an old Chinese porcelain plate bearing a fish scale design. Captivated by the intricate style, he incorporated it onto a rooster figurine by painting a black fishnet pattern onto the bird's breast in imitation of feathers, with the rest of the body in natural colorations. Though a number of designs still include shaded areas of color, since the 1960s many nd figurines have been painted in the fishnet design from head to toe.
