He founded his own manufactory at Herend 183 years ago. Lofty dreams, however, have costly consequences. Vince Stingl, the man behind those dreams, had continuous problems raising capital for his business. Thus 13 years later in 1839 the factory at Herend was, eventually, taken over by Mór Fischer. Fortune, which went hand in hand with experience in craftsmanship, turned his enterprise into a source of success fairly soon. Initially, world exhibitions and orders from the aristocracy were the foundations of business success and guaranteed future prosperity. Despite all the success, Fischer's sons paid no heed to their father's words of caution and decided on a different path to follow in business. That path failed to bring success, and the saying, " never stray from the road you know or gallop down untrodden paths " sadly proved a realistic prediction of failure. To turn grandpa's business into a new success story was a task resting upon the shoulders of his grandson. Jenő Farkasházy, himself a nobleman, started a new era of production philosophy based on a legacy of his grandfather's artistic and spiritual initiatives. Success was soon to follow these grand decisions. By the early years of the 20 th century Herend re-emerged as a name from a glorious past. Weathering the storms of economic crises and conflagrations of the time helped Herend preserve its traditions, while its artistic flair, perfection and elegance are all a guarantee today that Herend is still a synonym of magic in craftsmanship and fine luxury porcelain. Just think of the unbelievable richness of free variations that make up today's range of 16 thousand individual forms and 4 thousand patterns available in Herend's full product range. All these combined, we get millions of variations for our products to be displayed at any exhibition, whatever the thematic considerations. A good example is this exhibition, where we see all the characters and places from the most famous tales. More than that, these characters are made of porcelain. Fabulous, isn't it? A world of tales and fantasy has been created for all our visitors and the fact that this exhibition has become reality is evidence enough that the Herend Porcelain Manufactory, the Herend Museum of Porcelain Art and the Herend Amateur Artists' Club have been successful in their unique cooperation. Our supporters and sponsors do, of course, have done a great job for which we are grateful. Craftsmanship has been an ideal for several generations, now it is a trademark of uniqueness, something Herend stands for today. Herend products are well-known and much acclaimed even in the remotest corner of the world. The word Herend rings a bell for people all over the world. Even though many of those who love Herend products may not even know where the "Land of Herend" is, beautiful Herend porcelain is something that people will have no difficulty identifying. This, of course, cannot be done without a fair amount of responsibility. Responsibility for us, our traditions, the founders, our famous ‘forerunners' and our present-day customers. What we do is a kind of voluntary cultural mission. We also have a role in fulfilling some important social duties. We cannot let the hardships in today's world, the crises, the changes in style, and the external or internal influences get the better of us. Herend is beauty itself, which, just like in a tale, will not vanish. It is eternal. The sight of an opening porcelain rose is a fabulous act of wonder. A porcelain...
