RARE ALL ORIGINAL HERMAN MILLER EAMES PAW PIVOT MAPLE SPINDLE/DOWEL BASE WITH ZENITH ROPE EDGE SHELL CHAIR 1950 in PRISTINE MINTY CONDITION Perhaps the second rarest Eames chairs you could acquire for your Modernist collection (next to the X rocker), this 100% original first year production Rope Edge Pivot Spindle Armchair on a rotating base with Wood Maple legs,a Zenith PAW, designed by the great Charles Eames, manufactured byZenith Plastics, Gardena, California in 1950 and distibuted by Herman Miller, Zeeland, Michigan, A1 vintage condition, no breaks, no cracks, no chips, no replacement parts, absolutely pristine, the pictures tell it all.
This exceedingly rare rotating/pivot base has a "lazy susan" type mechanism mounted between the shell shock mounts and the 4 wood strut legs. What makes this particular style unique is that the availability of this base was limited to only the years 1950-1953 of production and ultimately many of the swivel mechanisms gave out and the wooden legs had a tendency to crack easily at the mounts. Amazingly this pivot base is completely operational in original black coated and shows very little signs of wear aside from some minor finish oxidation, no breaks, rust, bends or rewelds. The 4 MAPLE legs are in excellent condition with just a few minor nick/scratches that are barely noticeable, no gouges or cracks, completely intact - the resin caps on the tips are all original and pristine. The shock mounts are strong and supple with no bleed through to the shell. The Shell is in immaculate condition and is a very translucent mellow lemon/yellow in color. The close-up image of the shock mounts/rope edge is the best representation of the actual color and texture of the fiber throughout, absolutely gorgeous, superfibrous, subtle, superb. The rope is clear through the entire edge of the chair, beautiful detail, the checkerboard decal is 100% intact and pristine. This is an extremely rare example in amazing condition of the iconic Eames Pivot Wood Spindle chair over 55 years old!! This item is used and vintage as described. Please ask questions before bidding, and don't bid if you don't intend to buy the item. Check out my feedback and bid with no worries! The chair will be shipped with the shell and base disassembled to conform to shipping limitations, reassembly is simply with the original 4 phillips head screws as shown in the photos of the chair bottom. Item will ship domestically for a fee of $50, International shipping will run $100 to the designated countries. Insurance costs for either will be additional and is required even though the chair is very durable and will be packaged with great consideration. All International bidders must bear in mind and be responsible for the customs regulations of their respective country since I have no way of doing that on my end
