This eagle first of all is the first graven image of a living creature ever struck on a Jewish coin. It is possibly representative of the Golden Eagle that was temporarily placed above the entrance to the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem. Herod I the Great, 40-4 BC, bronze lepton of 11.1 mm, 0.79 grams. Obverse: Eagle, wings closed, standing right. Reverse: Single cornucopia. Reference: Hendin-1190. Nice, clear eagle and reverse is above average for centering and clarity.
