Offering this wonderful two volume set of books titled "Heroines of Fiction" by W. D. Howells, profusely illustrated throughout with full page illustrations by Howard Chandler Christy, A I Keller and others. Published by Harper & Brothers, 1901. Green cloth hardboards with ornate gold lettering on fronts and spines. Good+++ condition, clean, no spine cracks, very minimal wear on spine edges, vol 1 has a couple small white spots on spine. Hand cut rag edge pages are good+, gold gilt on top edges, no tears that I could find; volume one has light foxing on title page and facing illustration, no scribbles, hand written gift inscription on first blank page dated 1901 Christmas. Volume two has similar light foxing on title page and some of the illustrations have a slight darkening on very top edge. Nice thick quality paper. Illustrations are beautiful. Spines are secure and tight. These volumes are filled with stories of famous ladies of fiction by such authors as Charles Dickens, Jane Austin, Nathanial Hawthorne, Sir Walter Scott and the Bronte sisters, plus much more. Excellent addition to your library or a wonderful vintage gift!
