R Herse tandem frame, 1950. 56/53.5 cm c to c front/rear. This tandem was made during arguably the best period for Rene Herse bicycles (the early 50s), and shows a level of perfection in the workmanship that few other tandem makers ever came any w near. Unfortunately the bike hasn't been looked after very well by its successive owners, the original chrome (check one of the last photos that shows copper plating under the paint, this proves the bike was chromed when it first left the RH workshop) has been replaced by thick and ugly red paint, and t are absolutely no parts left on the frame. On a more positive note, the frame is perfect, no dents or damage, no lugs cut off. Originally the bike would have had RH brakes, RH front changer, Cyclo RD, SFF bottom brackets and certainly the other original parts would have been top of the range given the quality of the workmanship, and the fact the bike was chromed (very expensive). Ovalised bottom tube, all the lugs reworked and filed to a point, all the brazing incredibly regular, neat and crisp (the thick paint covers up some of the qualtiy of the workmanship) , this is an absolutely exceptional machine, but with a lot of work required to bring it back to life.
