Up for auction is a nice Canadian Goose decoy made byHerters of Waseca, Minnesota, ca. 1940. A review of Ken Trayer’s “North American Factory Decoys” (see page 199) suggeststhat this decoy their model #208. Its construction is cork with what is referred to in Trayer's book as "plastic ink" printed cloth covering and a wooden head. The printed pattern depicts feathers and is stretched over the cork body. A zinc metal band around the bottom edge is attached to a wood bottom board. Typically, much of the paint on the zinc has chipped off over the years. The head is wood and it retains its glass eyes. The printing on the body is still good (see close-ups) with some fading and darkening on the right side. Overall, this decoy is original in every respect, although it there is some damage to the cloth cover in a couple of places revealing the cork underneath. This great decoy measures 18” long; 8-1/2” wide; and 13” tall. Please ask questions or for more pictures, Shipping includes insurance and is slightly higher to Canada. Thanks for looking.
