We have for auction an original Hibbard, Spenser, & Bartlett Co. of Chicago IL. two blade Congress pattern pocket knife This is an original pre 1890's era knife , not a recent production knife. This is a nice vintage knife! You don't see the older ones like this. Nice high quality knife! This is a "Congress" pattern knife. This knife could date as far back from 1855 to 1930. That's right! 1855. But we'll let the experts be the judge. This tang stamp is one of the earlier styles, but they did however use a few similar styles up until the mid 1930's. The tang stamp is "Hibbard Spenser Bartlett Co" stacked in order one on top of the other. Some research revielled that the Hibbard, Spenser, & Bartlett Co. was a hardware wholesale co. in Chicago IL. from 1855 till 1962. Partners William G. Hibbard, Franklin F. Spenser, & A.C. Bartlett were the partners. At some point in the ealy 1930's they began marketing hardware under the True Value label. In 1962 it was sold to John Cotter who continued the True Value name which is still used today. Other labels marketed by them were New York Knife Co., Ulster Knife Co., Camillus knife Co., & Utica knife Co. Sometime in the early 1990's the Parker knife Co. used the label as well. Just a little history of the company for those less familiar. We have provided some great photos with enlargement capability's. You don't see many of the early production knives like this. Simply put, it's a nice early knife! This knife has a 2 1/4" main blade, the secondary blade measures 1 1/2". The knife measures 5 7/8" in length overall when fully open with the master blade. Fit and craftsmanship is very nice, Just what you would expect from craftsmen of this period. This knife appears in very nice condition showing signs of light use and the blades have been cleaned. The blades have been resharpened. You'll like this one, it's a nice early one. Please see the photos.
