Large Leaf Shaped Lobed Dish by Hicks, Meigh & Johnson in the Gilded Imari Stone China Tradition from the 1820s WELCOME Large Lobed Relish Tray or Desert Ironstone Dish Molded after Beaded Silver and Decorated in the Gaudy Imari Style of the 1820s (see details below). ITEM DETAILS: This large Mason's-type stone china bodied ornate beaded and lobed dish is from the Staffordshire pottery of Hicks, Meigh and Johnson. This enamel decorated and gold accented dish is fashioned after the popular Japanese Imari patterns produced by British potteries in the early 1800s. The popularity of these busily embellished patterns produced a genre that includes the Gaudy Dutch wares and even the tobacco leaf motifs. The center of the dish offered has a number of elements that are found on the various gaudy-style wares of the period. What makes this lobed dish particularly striking is the tasteful mix of relief molded beading, two tones of underglaze blue and skillful use gold leaf and other overglaze enamels. T is a gilded Chinese style vase near the center of the well and the inner design is pleasantly asymmetrical. The handle is molded and has floral terminals accented in gold.
