An EXTREMELY attractive mid-late 1800's work box in very good condition. Obviously a high quality item believed to be veneered with Coromandel. The inlay is superb and comprises of abalone, Mother of Pearl and brass. Highly ornate key hole surround and centre top feature. Please note the delicate cuts to the flowers and foliage and the TINY cuts to the abalone centre of the flowers...a nice touch of detail that enhances the appearance CONSIDERABLY. T has been a piece of the escutcheon replaced and a TINY piece of Mother of Pearl on the flower at the top right corner of the front, both done well as can be seen. The photographs do not do this box justice and the flash photography and high definition setting gives the impression of white specks...T are NO white marks and the veneer is darker than portrayed and contrasts more dramatically with the inlays. The veneer has one small piece replaced on the right side and t are VERY slight surface hairline fractures but these are NOT as grim as they sound or look in the photographs!!! (This style and with this colour of veneer are horrendous to photograph!!). The interior is excellent. Removable neatly relined bevel edged tray.
