This auction is for a very special, one of a kind LOT of photographs, paper items & letters written by and signed by : Henry George Reginald Molyneux Herbert - also known as " PORCHEY "I purchased the items in this LOT many years ago. I had the pleasure of purchasing paper items and books from one of the many Roebling family estates in New Jersey(USA) For privacy reasons - I would rather say which home - but the Roeblings no longer live t Helen Roebling had saved the items in this lot. She was friends with " Porchey " He trained and boarded her horse at Highclere Castle in Newbury, Berkshire, UK...The letters in the lot all on Highclere Castle letterhead. THIS LOT IS THE REAL DEAL... It has taken me years to finally list this lot because I never knew how I wanted to advertise it... I hope that the two categories will provide enough exposure... Henry George Reginald Molyneux Herbert is very famous, very well known, and is from a fantastic family tree... Before I breakdown the contents of this lot - I would like to list the names of the horses mentioned or photographed : Sister of Mercy Queens Hussar Berkeley Square Quadrangle Eagle's Eyrie OK - What you are bidding on : 1.) color snapshot photo of SISTER OF MERCY taken August 1965...2.) THREE black and white portraits of " Porchey " Photos are not dated, but are from the 1950's-6 0's3.) Two newspaper clippings of Sister of Mercy running race at Newbury's Ilsley Plate...4.) 1964 Christmas Card from HIGHCLERE Castle with a color illustration of Queens Hussar one one side, and a greeting on the other with the signature of Porchey under the greeting... 5.) 1965 Christmas Card from HIGHCLERE Castle with a color photo of Henry George Reginald Molyneux Herbert on one side and a greeting on the other side - I do not think the signature on this card is real - looks like it was printed on becuase the gold lettering in the greeting is exactly like the signature... So probably not actually signed. Def. a facsimile...6.) Funeral Services pamphlet from 1994 for Mary Gindhart Roebling... T ARE FIVE (5) LETTERS : 1.) One of the letters is NOT on Highclere letterhead. The small two page letter with blue ink is on YEW TREE HOUSE, Compton, Berkshire letterhead... Does this location mean anything to you - ? Not sure... Said letter is three sides long ( 1 1/2 pages) Dated May 8th, 1966. Addressed to My Dear Helen and is signed - " Peggy ( PETRE) " The woman who wrote the letter speaks candidly about Helen's sick sister, how she appreciates her generosity, speaks of her horses in the UK, etc... Interesting letter...2.) HIGHCLERE CASTLE, Newbury ( letterhead) Dated 25 / 3 / 67 Addressed to Dearest Helen and signed by PORCHEY... 2 sided letter, on powder blue paper. Porchey thanks Helen for letting him use one of her cars while he was in New York City... Letter comes with original mailing envelope, sent via Air Mail... 3.) HIGHCLERE CASTLE, Newbury ( letterhead) Dated 17 / 5 / 65 Informal letter discussing financial suggestions... 4.) HIGHCLERE CASTLE, Newbury ( letterhead) Dated 25 / 5/ 65 " Dearest Helen, I went over to Harry Bonner's and saw this lovely gelding called Berkeley Square who is a bright bay, 15. 2 1/2, six years old by Quadrangle dams pedigree unknown. .. " " I do hope your sister is improving " Signed in green ink " PORCHEY " 5.) HIGHCLERE CASTLE, Newbury ( letterhead) Dated 29 / 6 / 65 " Dearest Helen, I send you two snap shots that I took of the horse BERKELEY SQUARE, which you have given Liz... I rode for the first time since my operation this morning, and this horse is really a superb ride, and seems to be ideal in every way, no vice of any sort, and if Liz does not like him, she will never like any horse in the world!
