oil on canvas, signed lower right J. Barker. A winter landscape set in the Scottish Highlands portraying two groups of cattle and a small village in an open valley below. In an ornate gilt and gesso frame with gilt mat; 28.5` x 48` (w/o frame), 41.5` x 60` (w/frame). Joseph Barker (British, act. 1843-1848) was almost certainly part of the Barker family from Bale, England. This painting is attributed to Joseph, but could also be the work of John Joseph Barker (1824-1904), as their subject matter and style were quite similar.
