Hilson Handmade C 113 , Estate tobacco pipe This pipe is an estate pipe, completely reconditioned; I bought it to resell because if you've ever owned a briar Hilson you know great quality. This pipe simply says "handmade" with no country of origin so it may be assumed it was made during the 1980 transition from Belgium to The Netherlands when Gubbles bought Hilson. I own several briar Hilsons and enjoy them weekly. They are my Thursday pipes. It is not perfect with a few very minor little scratches, dings, and 2 tiny fills, but it is close. All the work I do on pipes is done by hand; I do not buff it to cover things up but to bring out the natural grain and patina. The minor scratches and dings are mostly things that will disappear with loving care and regular waxing, something this pipe has not known for quite some time until we bought it. Briar Hilsons, while not well-known in the US, are extremely popular in Europe, especially Germany where they take their pipes and pipe smoking very seriously, and are known for the quality of briar and craftsmanship. This pipe is no exception. It is beautifully done. It is a gorgeous reddish brown with almost black straight to flame grain. The stem appears original to the pipe but has an unfamiliar logo on it that I couldn't find. It may be the craftsman's personal logo. It is a wide flat stem with a bit of a curve in it. It has a very large apple-shaped bowl. This pipe would make an excellent gift for Father's Day or any other special occasion! Despite the few minor scratches, it is gift quality and a pipe any pipe lover would be proud to own and happy to smoke! Ready to smoke; thoroughly cleaned, conditioned, sanitized, and polished; no excess cake; bowl seasoned and carbonized but cleaned to help prevent ghost. No chatter on stem, no char on top of bowl. Large bore 3/4 inch diameter, 1 3/8 inch deep, and pipe 5 1/2 inches long. Lots of wood relative to the chamber size! Good bore width to depth ratio for an excellent smoker. Stand not included.
