John Wesley Helton (1846-1923) was the patriarch of the famous Hilton family of potters of North Carolina's Catawba Valley (the following generation changed the "e" of Helton to the "i" of Hilton). His sons Shuford, Claude, and Ernest Auburn ("Auby") Hilton were all potters and his three daughters were married to potters.
