Set of two first flight covers: Hindenburg Stuttgart - New York plus North Pole expedition of Admundsen & Ellsworth Both in condition shown and mounted on same page Hindenburg details: Zeppelin Registered Flight Cover postmarked 6 May 1936, Stuttgart, Germany. Addressee is in New York, New York. The cover carries the German cachet, Stuttgart registration label and franked with the Hindenburg stamps, Scott #s C57-8, with a separate postmark on each. Item is backstamped New York Madison Sq, 11 May. This is mounted on a black card and held in place with several gummed hinges. North Pole details: Card carried on one of the Admundsen-Ellsworth expedition planes from Kings Bay, Spitzbergen on May 21st, 1925. Planes failed to reach the pole; card mailed upon return to Spitzbergen. Card has Gimbel Agents North Pole Mail as return address, addressee is in New York City, NY; stamps are Norge 25 and 5 cent issues; underneath those is a Trans-Polar Flight Expedition imprint. Back of the card is postmarked March 22, 1924 Madison Sq New York with a 2 cent Washington stamp. Addressee is Christiana Norway. There is also a cancel advising you to "Register or Insure Valuable Mail." This is also mounted on black card and held loosely in place with gummed hinges.
