I will be listing a few select relics, votives and statues that I have collected over my many years of travels across the himalayan territory- Bhutan, Tibet, Nepal and India. I can safely say all my pieces are genuine period items of rarity and very high value and unlike the majority of "antique works" listed by other sellers I have only a few that I personally search and acquire rarely purchasing from other antique stores unless my research reveals that the price is reflective of the workmanship and the true age of the art....
I AM PROUD TO OFFER THIS STIRRING STATUE OF THE GODDESS PARVATI'S LIGHT AND BEAUTY TO ALL OF YOU FOR THIS FIRST TIME! THIS MAGNIFICENTLY MARBLE HANDCARVED MURTI STANDS WELL OVER 1 FT TALL AND DEPICTS THE BEAUTIFULCONSORT AND LOVER OF LORD SHIVA IN HER PRAYING ASPECT AS SHE SITS OVER LORD SHIVAS POWERFUL VEHICLE THE LION. ACCORDING TO LEGEND, LORD SHIVA HAD BECOME DESPONDENT OVER THE DEATH OF HIS WIFE, SO HE TURNED TO THE LIFE OF A HERMIT. HE SAT CONCENTRATING HIS ENERGIES UNTIL HE TURNED INTO A PILLAR OR FIRE! THE GODS BECOME WORRIED OVER THSI AND BEGGED THE MOTHER GODDESS SHAKTI FOR HELP IN RESPONSE THE GODDESS TOOK THE FORM OF PARVATI ,PRINCESS OF THE MOUNTAIN AND SOUGHT TO WIN SHIVAS HEART. PARVATI THEN TOOK ON THE LIFE OF A HERMIT AS WELL , AND MORTIFIES HER BODY THROUGH THE AUSTERITIES THAT WON SHIVA'S ADMIRATION AND HE ACCEPTED HER AS HIS CONSORT. INSPIRED BY PARVATI'S MELTING BEAUTY, SHIVA MADE MUSIC AND BEGAN TO DANCE! HE SITS WELL OVER 1 FT TALL (14.1 INCHES) AND WEIGHS OVER 20LBS! This is an absolutely sublime and rare marble sculpted votive of the Goddess Parvati from the ancient state of Orissa, India that was presented to my Guruji in 1916 by his teacher and kept in his personal possession since then. The piece itself dates back to the early 19th Century and after serving in decades of devotional practice it is now the wish of my Guruji that that these works spread their love and light to all regions of the world and hence I am offering the chance to bring this beautiful piece into your homes this Diwali - the largest Hindu festival. The stone sculpture itself is precisely hand carved and boasts of a spiritual artist who mingled both traditional stone sculpting practice with grace and dynamism to create a sculpture of magnetic persona and energy that radiated from the core of this work outwards. Directly below her we see her consort Lord Shiva's "vehicle" the Lion. The statues is in immaculate condition overall with no major chips or breakages marring the work. The most intrguing characteristic of this work has to be her beautiful face and alluring eyes which conveys so much strength and peace that a close look at the work makes it seem as if a powerful light is emanating from the very fiber of this stone! In fact the artist's attention to detail is not confined simply to her facebut rather is replete all over this work and if one looks carefully at her hands which are folded in prayer we can see each digit on her hands as well as her feet all the way around to the back of her neck w her lovely hairs spills out - bringing this piece to life ! HE SITS WELL OVER 1 FT TALL (14.1 INCHES) AND WEIGHS OVER 20LBS! This is truly a spiritual murti of unequivocal spiritual significance and historic value. This is a true treasue in spectacular condition which would not disgrace any of New York's major sale rooms which is w it will end up if the reserve is not reached. For those of you who arent familiar with statues , the hardest material to handcarve is Marble and the work on this outstanding and a lost art now.
